WDP is undertaking a comprehensive study of working conditions among construction workers in Texas. This research study will provide detailed data about workers’ experiences amid Texas’ rapid growth and booming construction industry. WDP’s multi-city research study will build off of the organization’s previous Texas construction worker studies, Build a Better Texas (2012) and Build a Better South (2017). The study will provide updated data on construction working conditions in Texas and will expand on topics such as heat safety and mental health. We hope that the results of the study will support WDP’s efforts to win safer, more dignified working conditions for construction workers.

WDP seeks a qualified Lead Researcher to coordinate survey and interview completion and data management in one of three Texas metro areas: Houston, Austin, or Dallas. This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position that will start in late June and end in August (a duration of approximately 7 weeks).

THE ROLE IN ACTION: 

  • Supervise a research team in the collection of primary survey data 
  • Availability to work 20 hours per week (afternoons)
  • Work with WDP Research Coordinator to identify viable construction sites
  • Supervise a team of surveyors in completing surveys and interviews in your city. 
  • Coordinate and oversee surveyor team site visits
  • Participate in regular meetings with other members of research team
  • Perform routine data management and tracking using Microsoft Excel and web-based survey tools

WHAT YOU’LL BRING*:

  • Ability to work independently and supervise a team of surveyors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and insured vehicle to travel to study sites (mileage reimbursement will be provided)
  • Experience in a supervisory role (preferred)
  • Experience with web-based survey tools  (preferred)
  • Previous experience conducting primary research and data collection  (preferred)
  • Work experience or relevant coursework in policy, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or public health  (preferred)

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • $25.00 per hour
  • Gas mileage reimbursement for travel at $0.67 per mile
  • Paid training 
  • Paid sick leave (based on hours worked)
