Dear Workers Defense Members,
I want to share some very exciting news with you. As the co-founder and co-director of the Workers Defense Project and Workers Defense ActionFund, it has been an honor to fight alongside you to achieve fair treatment for immigrant workers in Texas for the past 20 years. In 2019, your board of directors invited me to serve as Co-executive Director with José Garza. When José ran for and won his position as Travis County District Attorney, it was yet another example of the political power that you, the members of Workers Defense, have created in Texas.
When José took office, our board of directors began a national search to find the next Co-Director to join PDL. We had many very experienced candidates from all over the country, but the board of directors selected Lizeth Chacón to join me as our new Co-executive director.
Now, we have the opportunity to begin a new stage in the history of PDL and I am thrilled to let you know that with Lizeth we have found a fierce and fearless leader- an organizer who has been the director of a grassroots organization in the state of Colorado for last 8 years and won many victories for racial and economic justice. She is an immigrant from Mexico and began her career as an organizer in the immigrant rights movement.
Together, Lizeth and I are dedicated to continuing to grow our organization and achieve great victories for working families in Texas.
Lizeth officially starts in July this year. She’s going to live in Dallas and help us grow our people power in North Texas, as well as across the state. .
Compañeres, I am extremely proud of everything we have done together. I am so excited for you to meet Lizeth- she will surely inspire you with her dedication and clear vision to win systemic change here in Texas. Together we can Build a Better Texas – with dignity and respect for immigrant workers.
